Download: AudioMarkerForEB: Mark time points in audio files played by Experiment Builder
#1
The included AudioMarkerForEB application allows you to visualise audio files and mark / label important audio time points within them. Each time point is relative to audio onset and can be assigned a custom label (e.g., noun_onset, noun_offset, verb_onset, verb_offset etc.) Once processed, the output can be used in the data source of the included Experiment Builder project (MultipleAudioMessages.ebz) so audio markers (time points in milliseconds relative to audio onset and corresponding labels) can be logged during each trial’s audio presentation. This app is intendended to make audio marking and audio/eye movement integration easier when building a Visual World task with Experiment Builder.

Download AudioMarkerForEB.zip and extract its contents to access the application and the accompanying User Manual.

The MultipleAudioMessages Experiment Builder project presents a visual stimulus alongside an audio file on each trial. Once the audio time points from the AudioMarkerForEB app are placed in the experiment’s data source, they are automatically added to the eye movement data file by Experiment Builder at runtime, as the task plays audio stimuli in each trial. These messages are subsequently available in Data Viewer, where they appear alongside eye movement data using the same time stamp, allowing synchronisation of eye movement and audio time points.

To customise the Experiment Builder project, open the data source linked to the TRIAL sequence. For each trial, specify:
• The audio file to be played.
• A list of event times relative to audio onset (in milliseconds).
• A corresponding list of event labels/messages.

This data source example shows that trial 1 will play the audio file a.wav and writes the message "p1_start" 1423 milliseconds after audio onset. It then writes the message "p1_end" 1862 milliseconds after audio onset, and so on.

Please note the following:
- Experiment Builder requires an ASIO card on Windows for precise audio timing
- Such audio marking can be done using other 3rd party software such as Praat or Audacity
- This is just one example of how you can mark important audio time points with Experiment Builder. There are other ways as shown here.

Instructions:
  1. Download and unzip the AudioMarkerForEB.zip.
  2. Go through the AudioMarkerForEB User Manual included in the zip file to get started.
  3. Optional: Add the resulting audio time stamps and labels to this Experiment Builder task MultipleAudioMessages.ebz
