Mouse Simulation mode allows users to simulate eye position using the mouse on the Host PC; e.g., to test projects without a participant. It can be particularly useful when testing gaze-contingent tasks.
Mouse Simulation can be enabled by going to the Set Options screen on the Host PC and clicking the Mouse Simulation button.
It may be necessary to perform an initial calibration of the mouse in order to properly map the mouse to the intended screen space. To do so, start the Calibration process as normal. The mouse cursor will automatically jump to the first calibration target. Click the mouse, then press the “Enter” or “Space” key to accept the mouse’s “fixation” on the first target. As each subsequent target is displayed, the mouse cursor will automatically jump to the new target. If “Auto Trigger” is enabled, the next target should be presented automatically after the mouse click; if not, press “Enter” or “Space” after clicking to accept each fixation. Once calibration is complete, click “Accept” to finish.
When recording in Mouse Simulation mode, left-clicking the mouse inside the Gaze View window will move the gaze cursor and the recorded gaze position to the clicked location simulating a change in fixation location. Clicking and dragging the gaze cursor will simulate smooth pursuit movements, and right-clicking the mouse will simulate a blink.
