FAQ: EyeLink II: What does the message "Extra Markers" mean?
#1
* This FAQ only applies to the EyeLink II systems *

The EyeLink II head mounted eye tracker uses infrared markers in order to determine the position and distance of the camera head set. The system was not designed to be used in conjunction with other infrared emitting devices. If there is another source of infrared light in the field of view of the EyeLink II marker camera, the system may not be able to determine the proper position of its own markers. If you see the "Extra Markers" message, please remove any other IR emitting device from the field of view of the EyeLink II headband camera.

If the eye cameras are not positioned correctly, it is possible that their infrared LEDs may be visible to the marker camera, in which case they may also be picked up as extra markers. Please make sure you are positioning the eye cameras as outlined in Section 3.4 of the EyeLink II User Manual.

If you’re unsure of the source of these reflections, please take some screenshots of the EyeLink Host PC by pressing ALT+F7 while the host is running (see How can I take a screenshot on the Host PC monitor? for how to retrieve the images) and the photos of the physical experimental setup and send them to support@sr-research.com along with a description of the problem so that we can attempt to help to locate the source of the interference.
