Online Drift Correction on Mouse Click

Required Experiment Builder Version: 1.5.58 or higher
EyeLink Required: Yes
Type: Complete Example
Difficulty Level: Easy to Intermediate

This example illustrates:
  • How to create a mouse contingent Image Resource
  • How to use Fixation node to check with the gaze position after the Mouse Trigger
  • How to use Recycle Data Line node to restart the trial with re-calibration of eye position
  • How to use Send EyeLink Message (‘Not Looking’) to mark if fixation is outside of Fixation area
  • How to use Send EyeLink Command ('Drift Correct') to accept the Drift Correct if using EyeLink I or EyeLink II
Description:

This example demonstrates how to make the eye tracker perform a Drift Correct action when the participant presses the left mouse button to indicate that he or she is looking at a fixation cross. Each trial begins with the presentation of a fixation cross. A mouse cursor is also visible. The participant should direct his or her gaze to the fixation cross and press the left mouse button to indicate a steady gaze on it. The mouse must be positioned on a 100 X 100 pixel invisible rectangle centered on the fixation cross for the trigger to fire. If the location of the participant's gaze is within that same 100 X 100 pixel rectangle then a Drift Correct command is sent to the eye tracker (the Drift correct Command is skipped if the tracker version is EyeLink 1000, as it is drift free). Then the experimental trial material is presented to the participant. Here the material consists of the display of an image for 4000 msec. If the location of the participant's gaze is outside of the 100 X 100 pixel rectangle on the first mouse click then the experiment plays an error sound and waits for another mouse click from the participant. The second mouse click should reflect a second attempt at directing the gaze to the fixation cross. If the second attempt fails by the location of the participant's gaze falling outside of the rectangle, or if 5000 msec elapses from the onset of the fixation cross, then the trial is recycled. When a trial is recycled a camera setup action is performed. On new trials the camera setup action is not performed.

**Additional detailed information about the project is given in the notes section for most nodes. To see notes for a given node, either mouse over that node or click on it to display the notes window. If the notes window is not visible, go to the "View" drop down menu in Experiment Builder, select "Properties", and check "Note".
