This example illustrates:
  • How to use the Randomization Settings to group different Data Source rows
  • Basic use of Conditional nodes to check task performance
Description:

The experiment is implemented based on the Experiment 1 described by Sternberg (1966) in the following paper:
  • Sternberg, S. (1966). High Speed Scanning in Human Memory. Science 153, 652-654.
In every trial, a symbol of digits with a random length of from 1 to 6 is shown one digit at a time with a 1.2 second interval between them. Followed by a beep, a test digit is shown and a response is required. After the response is made, a feedback message is shown. The experiment consists of totally 168 trials: 24 practice and 144 experiment trials. The results are recorded in the RESULTS_FILE.txt.

This project sheds light on Experiment Builder's capabilities in randomized design and accurate control of time interval (1.2 seconds). A quick understanding of the project may become possible by reading the annotation note for each component in it.

Instructions:
  1. Download the Sternberg_Search.ebz example from this message.
  2. Launch the Experiment Builder application.
  3. Unpack the Sternberg_Search.ebz file to a location on your Experiment Builder PC with "File -> Unpack".
  4. Open the project in Experiment Builder.
  5. Deploy the project to a new folder.
  6. Run the Sternberg_Search.exe from the deployed directory.
