FAQ: Can I Upgrade the Windows Partition on the Host PC?
#1
⚠️Critical Warning: Do Not Update Windows on the Host PC
DO NOT attempt to update or upgrade the Windows operating system on the EyeLink Host PC. Any attempt to do so will cause irreparable damage to the primary EyeLink software partition and may render the system inoperable.

The Windows partition on the Host PC is a secondary environment intended only for basic maintenance tasks, such as copying EDF files or editing configuration (.ini) files. Many users will never need to access it. If your institution has a policy requiring mandatory Windows updates, you must get an exception for the Host PC. When contacting your IT department, explain that the Host PC is a dedicated piece of scientific equipment and that It does not pose a security risk. Often the key points are that it should not be connected to the institutional network or the internet and that Windows is not its primary operating system; the PC boots into a custom OS for eye-tracking. Often the IT department will have provisions or protocols for such machines.
