Many EyeLink Host PCs include a Windows partition that you can access from the boot menu. While most users will never need to access it, booting into Windows can be useful for specific administrative tasks, such as:
⚠️ Critical Warning: Do Not Update Windows
Under no circumstances should you ever attempt to update or upgrade the Windows operating system on the Host PC.
Any attempt to run Windows Update will almost certainly cause the EyeLink partition to be inaccessible, breaking the eye-tracking functionality.
For Institutional IT Policies
Some institutions have strict policies regarding which versions of Windows are allowed on their network. If you are required to justify the outdated version of Windows on the Host PC, you can explain the following to your IT department:
- Copying EDF files.
- Updating the EyeLink Host software (with the EyeLink II and EyeLink 1000 Host PCs).
- Editing .ini configuration files.
