Many EyeLink Host PCs have a Windows partition that is accessible from the boot menu. On older EyeLink systems it can sometimes be useful to boot the Host PC into Windows to perform various housekeeping tasks such as copying EDF files, updating the Host software or editing .ini files, but many users may never need to boot the Host PC into Windows at all. Any attempt to upgrade the Windows partition will almost certainly irreparably break the EyeLink partition so please do not attempt to update Windows on the Host PC. Some institutions may have blanket policies on which Windows versions are allowed. In situations like these, it may help to explain to the relevant authority that the Host PC is not connected to the institution network or internet (and therefore does not pose any security risk) and that Windows is not the default operating system for the PC.
