Occasionally a member of the support team may request that you provide them with eye*.log files to help troubleshoot an issue. The eye*.log files (eye.log, eye001.log, eye002.log, etc...) reside on the Host PC and contain information that can be helpful for a variety of support scenarios. The instructions below will help
EyeLink 1000 Plus, EyeLink Portable Duo, and Eyelink3
For recent generations of the EyeLink host software that run on Linux-based operating systems you can do the following to retrieve the log files:
EyeLink 1000 and EyeLink II
For older DOS-based systems please take the following steps to retrieve the log files:
EyeLink 1000 Plus, EyeLink Portable Duo, and Eyelink3
For recent generations of the EyeLink host software that run on Linux-based operating systems you can do the following to retrieve the log files:
- Make sure that both the Host PC and Display PC are turned on, and connected via ethernet (as they are for typical use).
- Exit the Host Software by pressing CTRL+ALT+Q on the Host PC keyboard to access the File Manager.
- On the Display PC, Open a web browser and type the Host PC IP address into the URL bar (e.g. 100.1.1.1). This will bring up the remote File Manager interface in the browser window:
- In the remote File Manager expand the ELCL Folder and then, depending on what version of the EyeLink Host software you're running, the log files can be found in either of the following sub folders:
- For recent software versions 5.50+ (1000 Plus) and 6.50+ (Portable Duo), navigate to the /ELCL/LOGS directory.
- For older software versions, the files are in the /ELCL/DATA/ directory.
- For recent software versions 5.50+ (1000 Plus) and 6.50+ (Portable Duo), navigate to the /ELCL/LOGS directory.
- Select the eye*.log files (eye.log, eye001.log, etc...)
- Right-click and select Download Items (or click the Download button). The files will be downloaded as a single .zip file.
- Email the resulting .zip file to the support team.
EyeLink 1000 and EyeLink II
For older DOS-based systems please take the following steps to retrieve the log files:
- Boot the Host PC into Windows.
- Open an Explorer window (Windows key +E).
- Navigate to the EyeLink partition (likely the E: Drive).
- Open the ELCL folder, then the EXE folder within.
- Copy the eye*.log files onto a USB stick (please note that Windows may hide the .log extension by default, so the files may appear as eye, eye001, etc...).
- Zip up the log files and email the resulting .zip file to the support team.
