Visual Probe Task
Required Experiment Builder Version: 2.3.38 or higher
EyeLink Required: Yes
Type: Complete Example
Difficulty Level: Easy / Intermediate
This example demonstrates:
Description:
This example shows one approach to a visual dot probe task. In the example, the participant sees a centrally presented fixation cross for 500 ms, followed by two horizontally side-by-side images presented for a duration specified in the Data Source (varies by trial). After the image presentation, a black X is presented as the probe on an otherwise blank screen, positioned where one of the images were previously displayed. The probe display remains until either the participant responds with a p or q keyboard key press or 5 seconds elapse without response, after which a blank screen is presented, trial variables are recorded to a text results file, and the trial ends. The task is to press q during the probe display if the probe is on the left, or p if the probe is on the right.

This example demonstrates:
- How to use the Randomization Setting section of the Data Source to set up basic trial randomization.
- How to link stimulus/interest area locations and presentation durations to the Data Source.
- How to determine trial response accuracy based on Data Source and participant keypress information.
- How to use a Results File node to save trial variable data to a plain text file.
