FAQ: How can I recover an EDF file from the Host PC?
#1
If an eye-tracking session is terminated before the EDF file can be transferred from the Host PC to the Display PC, you can copy or transfer the file again*. The Host PC automatically creates and saves the original EDF locally. You can retrieve the original file from the Host PC by following these steps:

EyeLink 1000 or EyeLink II
  1. Reboot the Host PC to Windows and locate the EDF file in the /EYELINK2/EXE/ folder (with the EyeLink II) on the EyeLink partition, or in /ELCL/EXE (with the EyeLink 1000); the EyeLink partition should show up as another drive in Windows. You can use a USB memory stick to retrieve the file. Just make sure to remove the memory stick from the Host PC as it can prevent the Host PC from functioning properly when booted to the EyeLink partition.
  2. An alternative Windows PC method to transfer the EDF directly on the Display PC is to use the getfile.exe application. Within C:/ Program Files (x86) > SR Research > EyeLink > bin, is 'getfile.exe'. Open it on your Display PC with the EyeLink tracker software running on your Host PC, and either leave the filename box blank (it will transfer the last saved EDF file) or enter the name of the EDF file name, and specify where to save the file.

EyeLink 1000 Plus or EyeLink Portable Duo
Exit the EyeLink application on the Host PC by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Q, which will open the File Manager. Once open on the Host PC you can either:
  1. From the Display PC, open a browser (e.g., Chrome, Firefox) and enter "100.1.1.1" in the address bar. This will enable access to the Host PC's File Manager from the browser. The EDF files can be found in either the /elcl/data/ folder or the /elcl/exe/ folder. Use the Download button to retrieve the appropriate file.
  2. Alternatively, you can connect a FAT32 formatted USB drive to the Host PC, locate the EDF file as described above, and copy it to the USB drive. Remember to disconnect the USB drive before restarting the tracking application.

*It's important to note that EDF files stored on the Host PC will remain there until they are deleted, or the same filename is used again. When you reuse an EDF session name, the previous copy will no longer be available on the Host PC.
