FAQ: Can I use Experiment Builder for Non-Eye Tracking Experiments?
#1
Yes, Experiment Builder is very versatile, and can easily be used to implement behavioral experiments that don't utilize an EyeLink eye tracker.

When you create a new project in Experiment Builder simply untick the 'EyeLink Experiment' checkbox (which is ticked by default).

If you have an Experiment Builder project that is currently an EyeLink experiment and you would like to make it a non-eye tracking project, you can disable the EyeLink feature in the preference menus: Edit menu (Windows), or Experiment Builder menu (Mac) -> Preferences -> Experiment -> EyeLink Experiment.

When disabling the EyeLink Experiment feature in an experiment that already contains EyeLink related nodes (e.g. EL_CAMERA_SETUP, Fixation Triggers, etc.), these nodes will be deleted.

The Stroop example that is provided with Experiment Builder (File menu -> Examples -> Stroop) illustrates how to create a non-eye tracking experiment in Experiment Builder.

Note, with the EyeLink Experiment feature disabled the eye tracker is not required and no EDF file is created. A Results File node should be added to the project to save a text file with all the variables / variable values in the project. See the webinar on Non-Eye Tracking Experiments or any of the Non-Eye Tracking Experiment examples for how to implement the Results File properly.
