FAQ: How can I make a "difference" Heat Map?
#1
To make a difference heat map select the two groups or trials desired in the Inspector window. Next right click on one of the items and select "Create Difference Fixation Map" to generate a Difference Heat / Fixation Map. It is important to note that the item selected first will be "positive" and the item selected second will be "negative". In other words the activity in the item selected last will be subtracted from the activity in the item selected first. In the image below, the only difference between the images is the order in which the two grouping nodes were selected.

Note that the raw data from any fixation map can be exported and this allows for more complex visualizations and comparisons in other software packages. In the preferences setting (Preferences tab in the Inspector window -> Data Analysis/Output -> Fixation Map) enabling the Export Heat Map Matrix option that will generate a TIF data file that holds the raw data for each pixel in the Fixation Map.
