FAQ: Why can't I see any pupil size data in my Trial Report or Sample Report?
#1
Data Viewer works with two types of pupil size data recorded in your EDF files:
  • Sample Data: The pupil size is recorded for every sample (e.g., every millisecond). This raw data is used in Trial Reports and Sample Reports.
  • Fixation-Averaged Data: The average pupil size is calculated across the duration of each fixation. This data is used in all other reports (e.g., Fixation Report).
Pupil size data may be missing from your Trial or Sample Reports if your viewing session is not properly configured. This can happen if the raw sample data was not loaded from the EDF file, which was a default behavior in some older versions of Data Viewer. To fix this, you must enable the sample loading preference and then re-import your data.
  • Enable Sample Loading: In the Inspector window, go to the Preferences tab, select Data Loading, and check the box next to Load Samples.

  • Remove Existing Data: In the Inspector, right-click on your currently loaded EDF files and select Delete to remove them from the session.
  • Re-import Data: Go to File > Import Data > Multiple EyeLink Data Files... and load your EDF files again.
Your Trial and Sample Reports should now correctly include the pupil size data.
