FAQ: *EyeLink II: How do I fix a “Error: Could not initialize PCI interface” error?
#1
* This FAQ only applies to the EyeLink II systems *

The error message "could not initialize PCI interface" typically means there is a hardware issue with the EyeLink II PCI card. The card may be loose in its motherboard slot, the slot itself may be faulty, or there could be a problem with the card.

Follow these steps in order to resolve the issue.
  1. Reseat the PCI Card
First, let's ensure the card is seated correctly in its current slot.
    • Power off the Host PC completely.
    • ⚠️ Unplug the computer's power cord from the wall outlet.
    • Open the computer case and carefully remove the EyeLink PCI card from its motherboard slot.
    • Firmly reinsert the card back into the same PCI slot.
    • Close the case, reconnect the power, peripherals, and EyeLink Hardware.
    • Restart the Host PC.
  2. Try a Different PCI Slot
If the error persists, the motherboard slot itself may be faulty.
    • Repeat the power-off and unplug procedure from Step 1.
    • Move the EyeLink PCI card to a different, empty PCI slot on the motherboard.
    • Close the case, reconnect the power, peripherals, and EyeLink Hardware.
    • Restart the Host PC.
If the problem persists, please send the eye.log files that are located at C:\EYELINK2\EXE\ directory of the Host PC to support@sr-research.com and we can assist you with further troubleshooting steps.
