The Stimulus Display PC's IP address and subnet must be in the same range as the Host PC for the two computers to properly communicate in a peer-to-peer fashion.
The default IP address of the EyeLink Host PC is 100.1.1.1. Therefore, the Stimulus Display PC typically uses the IP address 100.1.1.2 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0.
Important Considerations for Data Collection:
If the Display PC is a Windows 10 PC:
If the Display PC is a Windows 11 PC:
If the Display PC running macOS:
After Completing the steps above, select the "Hardware" tab again and configure the "Speed" setting to "100baseTX." While the modern hardware of our EyeLink 1000 Plus and Portable Duo systems will support 1000 Mbps connection speeds, the EyeLink 1000 and EyeLink II systems use older hardware which does not support this speed. Most Display PCs will detect this automatically, but macOS, specifically Mac Minis, seem to have issues properly identifying the speed of the network connection and need to be manual configured.
If the Display PC is running Ubuntu Linux:
The default IP address of the EyeLink Host PC is 100.1.1.1. Therefore, the Stimulus Display PC typically uses the IP address 100.1.1.2 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0.
Important Considerations for Data Collection:
- Disable all secondary network connections (e.g., Wi-Fi, secondary Ethernet adapters).
- Properly configure or temporarily disable any network security or monitoring software to ensure unimpeded communication between the Host PC and the Display PC.
If the Display PC is a Windows 10 PC:
- Connect the Host PC to the Display PC using a single Ethernet cable, without any intervening devices.
- Go to the Control panel -> Network and Sharing Center -> Ethernet (1).
- Click the Properties button to open the Ethernet Properties (2).
- Select the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP / IPv4) listing (3).
- Click the Properties button to open the TCP / IPv4 Properties (4).
- Select the "Use the following IP address:" and enter 100.1.1.2 for IP address and 255.255.255.0 for subnet mask (leave the Default gateway blank).
- Click OK to apply changes.
- Connect the Host PC to the Display PC via an ethernet cable.
- Go to the Start Menu -> Settings -> Network and Sharing Center (1) -> Advanced Options (2).
- Under the Advanced Network settings click the arrow next to your ethernet device to expand its options.
- Under "more adapter options" and select Edit.
- Double click on the "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)"
- Select the "Use the following IP address:" and enter 100.1.1.2 for IP address and 255.255.255.0 for subnet mask (leave the Default gateway blank).
- Click OK to apply changes.
If the Display PC running macOS:
- Go to System Settings > Network (or System Preferences > Network on older macOS versions).
- Set Service Order: To prioritize the dedicated Ethernet connection, click the "Action" button (three dots or gear icon) in the bottom-left corner and choose Set Service Order. Drag your dedicated Ethernet link to the top of the list. Click OK.
- Select your dedicated Ethernet adapter from the list on the left.
- Change the "Configure IPv4" drop down to "Manually."
- Set the IP address to 100.1.1.2 and the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0. You can leave the "Router" and "DNS" fields blank.
- Click "Apply" to save settings.
- Finally, click the Advanced tab at the bottom of the page pictured above and go to the "Hardware" tab. Make sure the Duplex setting is set to "full-duplex" (note that it should not be 'full-duplex with flow control').
After Completing the steps above, select the "Hardware" tab again and configure the "Speed" setting to "100baseTX." If the Display PC is running Ubuntu Linux:
- Open the "Settings" application (search for it in the desktop launcher).
- In the "Network" tab, click the gear icon next to your "Wired" connection.
- Go to the "IPv4" tab.
- Select the "Manual" option.
- Enter 100.1.1.2 in the "Address" field and 255.255.255.0 in the "Netmask" field. The "Gateway" field can be left empty.
