FAQ: How do I configure my network settings to connect to the EyeLink Host PC?
#1
The Stimulus Display PC's IP address and subnet must be in the same range as the Host PC for the two computers to properly communicate in a peer-to-peer fashion.

The default IP address of the EyeLink Host PC is 100.1.1.1. Therefore, the Stimulus Display PC typically uses the IP address 100.1.1.2 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0.

Important Considerations for Data Collection:
  • Disable all secondary network connections (e.g., Wi-Fi, secondary Ethernet adapters).
  • Properly configure or temporarily disable any network security or monitoring software to ensure unimpeded communication between the Host PC and the Display PC.

If the Display PC is a Windows 10 PC:
  1. Connect the Host PC to the Display PC using a single Ethernet cable, without any intervening devices.
  2. Go to the Control panel -> Network and Sharing Center -> Ethernet (1).
  3. Click the Properties button to open the Ethernet Properties (2).
  4. Select the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP / IPv4) listing (3).
  5. Click the Properties button to open the TCP / IPv4 Properties (4).
  6. Select the "Use the following IP address:".
  7. Enter the following information:
    • IP address: 100.1.1.2
    • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    • Leave the Default gateway field blank.
  8. Click OK to apply changes.

  • Additional steps for configuring macOS to communicate with the EyeLink 1000 or EyeLink II:
The hardware on these older systems does not support modern gigabit (1000 Mbps) connection speeds. While most computers detect this automatically, macOS—especially on Mac Minis—often fails to auto-detect the correct speed and must be configured manually.
    1. Complete all steps listed above
    2. Go back to the Network > Advanced... > Hardware tab.
    3. Find the Speed setting.
    4. Change it from "Automatically" to "100baseTX."
    5. Click OK and then Apply.
If the Display PC is running Ubuntu Linux:
  1. Open the Settings application. You can find it by searching in the desktop launcher.

  2. Navigate to the Network tab in the left-hand menu.
  3. Find your Wired connection and click the gear icon ⚙️ next to it.
  4. In the window that appears, select the IPv4 tab.
  5. Set the "IPv4 Method" to Manual.
  6. Enter the following information:
    • IP address: 100.1.1.2
    • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    • Leave the Default gateway field blank.
  7. Click the Apply button in the top-right corner to save the changes.
