Mental Rotation Paradigm

Required Experiment Builder Version: 1.4.290 or higher
EyeLink Required: No
Type: Complete Example
Difficulty Level: Intermediate

This example illustrates:
  • How to use conditional nodes to determine the trial type
  • How to use Keyboard nodes to get participant's response
Description:

This example implements the Mental Rotation Paradigm based on the following article:
  • Cooper, A. N., & Shepard, R. N. (1973). The time required to prepare for a rotated stimulus. Memory & Cognition, 1, 246-250.
In each trial, a normal character (R or 2) or a backward character (mirror image of R or 2) will be presented in different angles of orientation. The participant will be required to indicate whether the character is a normal one or a backward one as quickly and as accurately as possible.

This demo experiment consists of six blocks of 24 trials each. The whole session lasts about 20 minutes.
